ActiveX

Plug-in application for web sites. 

Bookmark

An invisible reference that allows for navigation to a particular point within a web page.

Browser

An application which allows end-users to view web pages, e.g. Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

Client Side JavaScript 

JavaScript processed on the client's computer, not on the server's computer.

Content Management Solution

An application which assists in the control of information on a website.

Formatting

To add visual effects, and organize, emphasize, and add structure to a document e.g. bolding. increasing font size and color, adding numbers or bullet points.

FTP

File Transfer Protocol- A set of procedures that a computer follows when moving files form one location to another.

HTML

Hyper Text Markup Language- A computer language used in the formatting on internet and intranet sites.

HTTP

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol- A set of procedures that a computer must follow when transferring web pages form one location to another.

JavaScript

Computer language used in the formation of web sites.

Plug-in

Software that works within another application.

Server

Allows the end-users to view web sites. Each web site uses a server.

Style Sheet

A style contains formatting information, such as a specific font, background color, or border style, that can be applied to almost anything on a page, including text, paragraphs, images, and tables.

Tag

Formatting command to reference specific points in a document.

Web Application

Business applications that have been redeveloped to use Internet technologies.

WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. It allows you to view the formatted text rather than the code that presents the text.
